THE RELIGION OF CAIN
Cain believed in God.
Cain brought an offering.
Cain was sincere.
Yet God rejected him.
Why?
In this Bible study we examine Genesis chapter 4 and the first false religion recorded in Scripture. Cain approached God through the work of his own hands. Abel approached God through a blood sacrifice provided according to God’s revelation.
The contrast between Cain and Abel is the contrast between works and faith, religion and redemption, human effort and divine provision.
Many people today are following the same path Cain followed. They trust church membership, baptism, sacraments, commandments, morality, religious performance, or personal goodness. The Bible teaches that sinners are accepted by God only through faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.
Romans 3:25 declares:
“Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood…”
In this message we examine:
• The first false religion in the Bible
• Why Cain’s offering was rejected
• Why Abel’s sacrifice was accepted
• The connection between Cain’s religion and modern false gospels
• The blood that speaks better things than Abel’s blood
• God’s provision for guilty sinners through Jesus Christ
The religion of Cain says:
“Look what I have done.”
The gospel says:
“Look what Christ has done.”
