THE BLOOD ON THE MERCY SEAT
Was it enough that blood was shed?
The Bible answers, no.
The blood had to be presented where God required it.
In this message, Dr. Robert Potthoff walks through Leviticus 16 and shows how every detail of the Day of Atonement pointed forward to the Lord Jesus Christ. The mercy seat, the high priest, the blood, and the Holiest of All all proclaim one glorious truth: sinful man can only approach a holy God through the sacrifice that God Himself accepts.
This sermon explains:
• Why the blood had to be brought beyond the veil.
• Why the mercy seat rested above the broken law.
• How the high priest pictures the Lord Jesus Christ.
• Why the blood of bulls and goats could never take away sins.
• How Jesus Christ entered heaven with His own blood and obtained eternal redemption.
• Why Romans 3:25 calls Christ our propitiation through faith in His blood.
• How the mercy seat points directly to Calvary.
The gospel is not merely that Christ died.
The gospel is that Jesus Christ, the spotless Son of God, shed His precious blood, died for our sins according to the scriptures, was buried, and rose again the third day according to the scriptures. His finished work completely satisfied the righteous demands of a holy God.
If you have been trusting your religion, your baptism, your church membership, your good works, or your own righteousness, this message will show you why salvation is found in Christ alone.
Romans 3:25
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
