LESSON 6: HOW TO RESPOND TO THE GOSPEL

ACTS 16:30–31

The gospel demands a response.

Not a process. Not a program. Not a lifetime of effort. A response.

In this lesson, we answer the most important question a sinner can ask:

What must I do to be saved?

The answer is not found in religion. It is not found in repentance as a work. It is not found in baptism, surrender, or commitment.

God gives a simple, direct, and unmistakable answer.

ACTS 16:30–31

30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

In this lesson, you will clearly see:

• What it truly means to believe the gospel

• Why faith is the only response God accepts

• The biblical definition of repentance

• Why calling on the Lord follows belief, not replaces it

• Why salvation is not found in prayer, emotion, or effort

• Where true assurance actually comes from

Faith is not doing.

Faith is not performing.

Faith is trusting.

The object of that faith is not your life, your change, or your commitment.

The object of that faith is the blood of Jesus Christ.

ROMANS 3:25

25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.

Repentance is not turning from sin to be saved.

Repentance is a change of mind that leads to faith.

Faith receives what Christ has already finished.

EPHESIANS 2:8–9

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

The gospel is simple.

The response is clear.

Believe the gospel.

If you have trusted the shed blood of Jesus Christ alone, you are saved forever.

If you are trusting anything else, you have not responded the way Scripture commands.
