The Tragedy of Almost | Preached by Dr. Robert G. Potthoff
Almost persuaded. Almost saved. Almost believing. Almost ready. Almost—but lost.
In Acts 26:28, King Agrippa spoke some of the saddest words ever recorded in Scripture:
Acts 26:28
28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.
This sermon exposes the eternal danger of being “almost.” From Agrippa, to Felix, to the rich young ruler, to the stony ground hearers, God’s Word gives us repeated warnings of those who came near to salvation but never entered in. Almost saved is altogether lost.
Dr. Robert G. Potthoff, founder of Mission 1611 and co-founder of the King James Bible Institute, preaches this urgent message straight from the King James Bible, calling sinners to flee from “almost” and come to Christ in full faith.
📖 Key Scriptures:
Acts 26:27–28 – Agrippa, almost persuaded
Acts 24:24–25 – Felix, trembling yet delaying
Mark 10:17–22 – The rich young ruler, almost committed
John 6:66 – The false disciples, almost following
Mark 6:20 – Herod, almost respectful
Matthew 13:20–21 – The stony ground hearers, almost converted
Acts 8:18–23 – Simon the sorcerer, almost religious
Hebrews 2:3 – “How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?”
🔥 Do not be an “almost Christian.” Trust fully in the finished work of Jesus Christ. Believe on His death, burial, and resurrection. Rest in His shed blood alone.
2 Corinthians 6:2
2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
